It's October, which means Halloween candy, which means breakouts are imminent. I was intrigued about the beauty routine concept of the Double Cleanse and figure with candy season upon us, I should give this a try. When I started researching, I found that the Double Cleanse Routine originates from the 10-step Korean skin care routine. Anyone who knows me, knows that patience is not one of my virtues, so 10-steps was a hard no. The basic foundation behind the cleansing part of the routine however, is simple and makes quite a lot of sense:
1. 1st cleanse is with an oil based cleanser to rid the skin of excess sebum (oil produced by your skin which clogs pores), oil-based product residue (sunscreen, makeup); and
2. 2nd cleanse is with a water based cleanser to rid the skin of dirt, grime, pollution, dead skin cells and any oily residue left over from the 1st cleanse.
Many facial cleansers include chemicals to remove dirt, which can be harsh and dehydrating to your skin. Double cleansing is a gentle and effective way to cleanse your skin.
I have been using Bye Bye Makeup 3-in-1 Makeup Melting Balm for my 1st Cleanse. It was an odd sensation at first in that it feels so oily. As someone who is battling pimples and wrinkles at the same time, I was a skeptic and confident I would be broken out in the morning. I didn't break out and haven't yet, so there's that. I was amazed at the amount of makeup and dirt that came off of my face during this first cleanse, a little frightening actually.
For the 2nd Cleanse, I use Image Skincare Stem Cell Facial Cleanser The Max. This cleanser is focused on optimizing Ph balance and doesn't dry my skin out. To be honest, I'm not completely sure what the stem cell technology is (nutripeptides and plant stem cells), all I know is my skin looks better than it ever has since I started using it, so I keep using it.
I used to be the person that would wash my face at night and wake up in the morning with make-up on my pillow. No more. Since I instituted the Double Cleanse, my face is cleaner, my skin looks healthier and I have less laundry now that I am not constantly changing pillowcases! Now let's see if it can stand up to candy season!
