I have always been drawn to all things spiritual, except for church. I am a retired Catholic. Organized religion, just not for me. But spirituality, this is my thing. I am comforted in knowing that t here is a peaceful way to connect to something bigger than myself. I meditate. I practice affirmations. And now, I practice Reiki. I found it in a very serendipitous way. I was in an airport waiting on a delayed flight from LA to Boston. I was downloading podcasts to listen to while on the flight and downloaded one called Almost 30 Podcast. Now, let's be clear, I am not "Almost 30", I have children who are almost 30 so I'm not sure why I thought this was for me, but it was. The episode was an interview with Millana Snow, an Energy Healer. While still sitting in the airport waiting on my further delayed flight, I went to Millana's website and toured around. She had an Events page with a listing for an "Energy Healing Workshop Intensive." I was in a place in my life with a lot of newness and uncertainty and maybe because I was seeking stability, I signed up for the workshop. It was an 8 hour intensive workshop and I hadn't even listened to the podcast yet! Fast forward a few weeks to the weekend of the workshop. I typically research everything, extensively. I knew nothing walking into the workshop and I am confident it was exactly the way it was supposed to be. I walked in with an open mind, not really having any idea how my energy would be healed, but open to whatever the day would bring. It was a life changing day and it inspired me to become certified in Reiki.
Reiki means spiritually guided life force energy. It is spiritual, but not religious. Reiki is rooted in a law of physics called "entrainment." This law was discovered in the 1600s by a Dutch scientist who discovered that if you put two clocks close to each other on a wall, eventually, they would synchronize and the pendulums would swing together. There are also roots in a second law of physics known as Ampere's Law explains that there are electrical and magnetic energies in and around the human body. Reiki stimulates the immune system helps to reduce inflammation and relieve stress or pain. It can help with better sleep, increased energy, clarity and emotional release. It is widely accepted at many hospitals, including the Mayo Clinic, Cleveland Clinic and Johns Hopkins as some examples.
I am newly certified, and have had sessions with a few of my friends and family to practice. Universally, they have all felt warmth, like I was holding hot stones in my hands, even though I wasn't touching them, just holding my hands over their body. It's an incredible opportunity to help and to heal. What do you think about this? Are you open to trying it?
