I am planning to start the New Year off in a big way. I have struggled with food, if I am honest, my whole life. I am always on a diet, or talking about needing to be on a diet or just generally uncomfortable in my body. I am planning to do the Whole30 program in January. The program is designed to change your life and how you think about food, your body and your life. There is science behind the program created by Melissa Hartwig and Dallas Hartwig. It will improve your sleep, energy levels, mood, attention span, body composition, eliminate cravings, correct hormone imbalances, fix digestive issues, improve medical conditions and strengthen the immune system. While you will probably lose weight on this program, that is not the goal. The goal is to understand how different food groups affect your body by eliminating them completely for 30 days. At the end of 30 days, there is slow reintroduction of foods so that you can feel their effects. At the end of this process, your body and mind feel differently about food. Here are the rules:
1. No sugar (you must read labels very carefully)
2. No alcohol
3. No grains/seeds (wheat, barley, corn, rice, millet, buckwheat, quinoa, etc.)
4. No legumes (beans, peas, lentils, soy and peanuts)
5. No dairy
My goal moving forward is to eat for health, not for taste. Whole30 will be a really great way to understand how these different food groups affect my health and well being. I am also doubling down and doing Gabby Bernstein's Finally Full digital course "How to have a healthy spiritual relationship with food" in January. I am a Gabby Bernstein superfan, her books have changed my life in so many incredible ways. I am excited to have this positive spiritual program to do alongside Whole30 to battle the food and body image demons as well as to support me through what will undoubtedly be some rough patches.
I am putting this out into the universe to keep myself accountable. I am a little scared, but also excited to do this. I am prepping this month by eliminating sugar on 12/1 and dairy on 12/15. Easing my way into this so it is not a complete body shock in January. Have any of you done Whole30 before? What were your experiences?
